I do not use Bluetooth often enough to leave it on all the time. However, I do use it often enough that I want a keyboard shortcut to turn it on and off. To do this, I've written an AppleScript which uses this command line utility to turn on and off your Bluetooth. You can download the script here.
Note: the icon of the script shows what action will be taken on the Bluetooth status. If you would rather that the icon show what the current Bluetooth status is, open the script in Script Editor and change the first property to "false".
