Add Keyboard Shortcuts For Accounts in Mail

Because of my various activities, I have various email accounts. One of the problems with having multiple email accounts is that you then need to use each one for what it was intended.

In Apple mail, there are two obvious options for switching your outgoing email address: clicking on the menu and changing it there, or if you have full keyboard access on, you can tab over to the menu and start typing in the first few letters of your name.

The first method uses the mouse, so that is out if you're trying to save some time. The second method doesn't work if you use the same name for each email address.

MacOSXHints.com has the solution. It turns out that you can set a keyboard shortcut for your email account.

To do this, go to the Keyboard & Mouse System Preference pane. Once there, click on the "Keyboard Shortcuts" section and then click on the plus sign in the lower-left corner of the window.

For the Application, set it to Mail.app.

For the Menu Title, set it to the exact wording of the item in the "From:" menu. For example, "John Doe <john.doe@example.com>".

Finally, set the keyboard shortcut to the one you desire.

Once all this is done, you should be able to use your keyboard shortcut to set the From: address.
