If you have an iPhone/iPod Touch and are vexed by the lengthly backup/sync times, then here's a great way you can sync your iPhone/Touch without having to do a backup. However, this method doesn't disable backups at all, so if you have to restore your device, you still can.
You will need iTunes 7.7.1 for this to work.
This post is from one of the comments on MacOSXHints.com. You can read that instead if you want.
Finally, I haven't tested this (because I don't have an iPhone/Touch).
Step 1: Quit iTunes.
Step 2: Open up Terminal.app. (/Applications/Utilites/Terminal.app)
Step 3: Copy and paste the following command into Terminal. Then, press return.
defaults write com.apple.iTunes AutomaticDeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true; defaults write com.apple.iTunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool falseStep 4: Launch iTunes.
Step 5: To sync your iPod, just plug it in and let it automatically sync. To backup/sync your iPod, use the button you normally use to manually sync you iPod.
