IF you want to quickly access System Preferences, all you need to do is change the volume while holding the option key. What happens is System Preferences will open the "Sound" preference pane. This also works with other preference panes:
Display brightness: Displays
Keyboard backlight brightness: Keyboard & Mouse
Change sound levels: Sounds
If you have one of the new macbook pro keyboards with a dashboard button (F4) or exposé button (F3) then you can use those in combination with the option key to open the Dashboard and Exposé preference pane.

oh cool, hahah. i like the concept of your blog... mac users enjoy the user-friendliness of macs so it makes sense to make your tips user-friendly too huh... nice custom images. :o) i'm a fan of good user documentation hahah...
Doesn't work here...
I press "fn"+F3/F4/F5 plus the option key and nothing happens.
Does it only work when you leave the standard key settings without activating the function key?
@ FRank,
Thanks!
@ Zett
Actually, I have it set so that Fn+volume key changes the volume. So, )as an example) Fn-Option-F1 goes to the display prefs. I've no idea why this wouldn't work. Does the key your pressing change volume/brightness without the option key?
